Hello fellow Malaysians out there! Have you ever wondered which of our citizens have actually carved a name on the international arena ? I happened to came across an article which featured some of the more famous Malaysians. I will share it with you for your reading pleasure.
Something i noticed is that from the list, most are entertainers in performing arts or fashion designers. Wow, i never knew that Malaysians are such artists! On the other hand, i am pretty disappointed that there are no famous people in the academics field. Why no scientists? Historians? And what the hell is Alex Yoong doing in the list?
Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad
In politics since 1945, Tun Dr Mahathir was the Prime Minister of Malaysia from 1981-2003. Winning 4 successive elections, he gave the country a political stability that allowed for investment and economic growth.

Datuk Seri Abdullah bin Ahmad Badawi
Taking over after Tun Dr Mahathir stepped down, Datuk Seri Abdullah is the fourth and current Prime Minister of Malaysia. In the general elections of 2004, he led Barisan Nasional coalition to a landslide victory. Since being in office, Datuk Seri Abdullah has called for modern and progressive Islamic rule.
Anwar Ibrahim
The one-time protégé and former deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was convicted of corruption and sodomy in 2000 and sentenced to 9-year’s jail. In 2004 the conviction was reversed by an appeals court and he was released.
Siti Nurhaliza
A music icon in Malaysia, Siti Nurhaliza is known as the ‘Celine Dion of Asia’. Born in 1979, she began her singing career at age 12 and has since produced an album every year since 1996 and won numerous awards.
Michelle Yeoh
This Miss Malaysia of 1983 is best known as the Bond girl in Tomorrow Never Dies and the female lead in the award-winning movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Jimmy Choo
Born in Penang in 1961, Jimmy Choo is a world-renowned fashion shoe designer whose creations were favoured by the late Princess Diana. He was awarded an OBE from Queen Elizabeth in 2003.
Zang Toi
Fashion designer Zang Toi has dressed big names such as Sharon Stone, Kelly Preston, Ivana Trump and Meg Ryan.
Alex Yoong
This race driver from Kuala Lumpur has competed in Formula One races in 2001 and 2002.
P Ramlee
A legendary figure in the entertainment industry. P Ramlee was an actor, director and songwriter. During his career he acted and directed in 66 movies and has penned more than 300 songs.
