Retro Stuff!

I stumbled upon an old gem while back in Kuantan. My mother dug this out from her collection of antiques : my dad's passport from 1965!

The list of countries in which Malaysians were prohibited from traveling to. These days, only one country is left in that list, Israel. Gosh, they couldn't even go to China! How to balik kampung liddat?

Haha...the information were filled using a fountain pen. Forgery must not be very widespread at that era.... And not that many rules governed the photos too! Haha...my dad so stylo-milo...take picture also can be slanted...hmmm...

And this was his student's pass then....

Hawaii-Five-O Theme Song

Wah.... this song is kinda 'lou tou'...haha...why do all these old TV series have their protagonists turning to face the camera as their names appear during the theme song? It's soooo predictable...

Pets & Plants

Look at this photo of QQ. He's like an angel staring back at you with his innocent, big, brown eyes. If you only knew what's playing in his brain, he's probably figuring out what's the best way to get a big bite out of you....haha...

My father's flowers blooming fiercely in the February sun. Just see how blue the sky was, with the scorching sun and some water, and it's like spring in Malaysia.

I had a similar photo taken of my two baobeis last year, but only in that photo, Puffy was the one with the tongue sticking out.

Every branch of the trees have flowers on them. It's nice to see different colours growing on the same tree... this is our 'Christmas' tree for Chinese New Year...!

Puffy is so well-behaved this days. I merely asked her to 'Sit' and 'Stay' and i could get this picture of her seemingly smiling at my camera.

Hear The Tiger Roar This Year!

Its the year of the Tiger. The forecast seems to be bleak to us Monkeys but we shall all fight for our own destiny yeah!!

My high school friends who were free to go roaming on 2nd day of CNY. We house-hopped and swapped stories in every house. This pic was taken in Angie's house, where her father served us chinese tea and cookies.

First time Angie is giving out red packets. She received more than she offered though! Haha....

We also paid a visit to Ke Xin, who just had her baby boy Ivan just 2 months ago. Her boy looks a lot like daddy~

And a group photo to remember the day by. It's pretty intriguing but the five of us hardly changed. If you compared our photo now and 13 years ago, it basically look identical, except for our hairdo!

Sixian's Birthday @ Goodwood Park Hotel

This year, celebrating Sixian's birthday, we spent an afternoon enjoying the splendour of English buffet at the Goodwood Park Hotel. The spread consists of mainly savoury and sweet finger food. The variety was limited but of very good quality.

Each diner is entitled to two drinks. I had a pot of Vanilla tea and a cup of Vienna coffee. Goodwood Park also serves their hot beverages in breathtaking China, with pretty motifs.

Some of the cakes and desserts.

The birthday gal unwrapping her birthday present. We bought her a set of earrings, hair pin, hair clip and pendant from Chomel.

Puffyrazzi posing with the birthday girl. Happy birthday Sixian!

Andrea couldn't make it, but we were lucky we finally managed to dig Cui Cui out of her house...haha...

Lip-Smacking Hawker Fare

Hidden in some small Muslim coffee shop in Jurong, my ex-boss Mr Xie recommended this Ayam Penyet stall. Ayam Penyet is a well-known Indonesian dish where the chicken is flattened and served with rice, chilli and other accompanying things.

They serve the Ayam Penyet in traditional wooden bowls. I wouldn't wanna know the extent of the microbial growth on the bowl so i'll choose to ignore it...haha...Anyway, the Ayam Penyet comes with a potent serving of chilli (VERY POTENT!). Every time i eat this i feel my lips and throat burning with a tingling sensation.

Soh Kee in Jurong West Market sells the best chicken porridge and raw fish! Even though the stall owners a bit 'attitude' lah, but i still go. I believe my eldest sister also brought Crispy here for a try before.

This is their raw-fish dish. The fish strips are aplenty and doesn't have the fishy aftertaste. They must only purchase very fresh fish.

Their porridge is cooked to the point that its all gooey and starchy, which i like. The best part though, is the chicken. They certainly don't scrimp and save on the sesame oil! Anyway, it could've been just a little less salty. But kudos on how the tender the meat is!

Also travelled from one end of Singapore to the other to Bedok, where i have long been craving for the famous Bak Chor Mee! The last time i had this was in 2002, so imagine how long i've waited...

The difference is that their noodle comes in the soup version. You can see all the minced meat floating on the soup. A sip of this soup brings you to soup heaven....haha... very flavourful and sweet. Best bak chor mee in Singapore...but it only opens at night, so you gotta go after dark.

After Bak Chor Mee, drove to Bishan to have dessert. My favourite yoghurt chain, Yami Yoghurt topped with Crazin. Not every Yami Yoghurt is good though, don't patronise the one in Jurong Point cos the yoghurt doesn't taste as good. The one in Bishan has a long queue. Its yoghurt is thick, cold and has a good flavour, compared to the dilute and watery version from Jurong Point.

Small Investments

Times are difficult now, so it's a good opportunity to dabble in some small business. This is a newspaper cutout of my new maid agency. I handle Indonesian and Filipino maids, does Dajie need one? In fact, i have ISO 9001 ( Quality Management System) , but pity it's a way outdated version....the latest being ISO 9001:2008....haha...

On my free time, i go and inspect my little corner, Ann Crystal. It earns me some pocket money enough for breakfast.

To cater to the elderly market, i have invested in this Yong An Kedai Runcit... somehow it's not rolling in enough money because even the elderly are starting to fancy shopping in the comfort of air-conditioned supermarkets like NTUC Fairprice...*sigh*

The Line

Another 38% off Shangri-La buffets! Wakakaka..... Instead of going to Rose Veranda, this time we rushed down and booked ourselves seats for their lunch buffet at The Line. Their spread is varied, with almost everything you can think of. The place is bright, colourful and happy. What a pleasant way to spend your lazy Saturday afternoon.

Fresh oysters with Tabasco sauce and a tinge of lemon. Their oysters are large, succulent and fresh. The waiter opens the oysters upon request, and hence preserving its freshness. I had 4 of these, and the other two girls 7 each!!! Gosh...it was like a feeding frenzy~

Sixian loves sashimi, so she deserted us for a while to join the sashimi queue and came back with this dish of goodies to share : Salmon, tuna, salmon belly and squid. I didn't dare eat much for fear of stomach upset ( i always get diarrhea after too much raw meat), but the fish were all juicy and delicious! Following this, we also had fresh cold prawns, mussels and crabs, which were all tasteless.

The thing about buffets is that you have to take everything in small portions to prevent over-eating. This serving of salad in balsamic vinaigrette dressing, onion risotto and pizza is a great start after all the seafood. The onion risotto was especially tasty.

They do have some very creative food, like the rock melon wrapped with thin smoked beef, that was great. The beef satay was tender and flavourful. The other two sides , seabass and chicken on this dish were alright.

Tze Ching's love for Indian food shows on her plate. She heaped it up with tandoori chicken, papadums, nans, curry chicken and satays! Everything was spicy and pretty authentic, for a buffet.

Now, back to appetisers....we were eating pretty haphazardly. Basically just taking things we fancy...haha.. the black-pepper pan-seared tuna looked so good, but didn't turn out as well as we expected. The foie gras was the minced version...never liked it, too salty and liver-ish.

I had a bowl of Cream of Pumpkin after the first round, but it was nothing compared to this Winter Melon Chicken Soup! Very very soothing, reminiscent of mom's cooking. I still prefer oriental soup :)

Dessert!!!! I ordered this Mango Crepe, and we also had a chocolate brownie Crepe. Both were sinful and dripping with creamy fillings. The crepe itself was chewy and sweet, a good way to start our dessert rounds.

These are the crazy, sweet and fattening array of desserts that they have. Our favourite ( got 2 votes out of 3) must be the Earl Grey Creme Brulee ( the one in the white round cup). The subtle tea aroma added alot of character to the already popular creme brulee. Sixian prefers the lemon macaron though.

We had some cakes as well, and ended the wonderful meal with ice cream and brewed coffee. Phew.....*fans stomach* Hope to have a chance to go back next time :D
