Lip-Smacking Hawker Fare

Hidden in some small Muslim coffee shop in Jurong, my ex-boss Mr Xie recommended this Ayam Penyet stall. Ayam Penyet is a well-known Indonesian dish where the chicken is flattened and served with rice, chilli and other accompanying things.

They serve the Ayam Penyet in traditional wooden bowls. I wouldn't wanna know the extent of the microbial growth on the bowl so i'll choose to ignore it...haha...Anyway, the Ayam Penyet comes with a potent serving of chilli (VERY POTENT!). Every time i eat this i feel my lips and throat burning with a tingling sensation.

Soh Kee in Jurong West Market sells the best chicken porridge and raw fish! Even though the stall owners a bit 'attitude' lah, but i still go. I believe my eldest sister also brought Crispy here for a try before.

This is their raw-fish dish. The fish strips are aplenty and doesn't have the fishy aftertaste. They must only purchase very fresh fish.

Their porridge is cooked to the point that its all gooey and starchy, which i like. The best part though, is the chicken. They certainly don't scrimp and save on the sesame oil! Anyway, it could've been just a little less salty. But kudos on how the tender the meat is!

Also travelled from one end of Singapore to the other to Bedok, where i have long been craving for the famous Bak Chor Mee! The last time i had this was in 2002, so imagine how long i've waited...

The difference is that their noodle comes in the soup version. You can see all the minced meat floating on the soup. A sip of this soup brings you to soup heaven....haha... very flavourful and sweet. Best bak chor mee in Singapore...but it only opens at night, so you gotta go after dark.

After Bak Chor Mee, drove to Bishan to have dessert. My favourite yoghurt chain, Yami Yoghurt topped with Crazin. Not every Yami Yoghurt is good though, don't patronise the one in Jurong Point cos the yoghurt doesn't taste as good. The one in Bishan has a long queue. Its yoghurt is thick, cold and has a good flavour, compared to the dilute and watery version from Jurong Point.
