Historical City of Melaka

This blog entry will focus on the many wonderful and memorable attractions of Melaka. On our first night there, despite all that fatigue, we decided to jump onto the bandwagon along with the crowd at Jonker Walk. This long stretch of road has a Pasar Malam on weekends, and the road is fringed with old shop houses selling food and other local crafts and souvenirs. A must-see for tourists and visitors.

Look at that bustling street. Beware of pickpockets though~

I think i caused a mini jam whilst posing for this photo. Anyway, just wanna capture the real atmosphere at that place, where local aunties to blonde ang-mohs hang out together.

The next morning, we rose early and promptly went to Stadhuys ( or better known as Red Square) right after breakfast. This square has historical structures built by the Dutch when they occupied the town of Melaka. Everything has since been painted red, and hence the moniker.

The local government has taken great effort in beautifying the square with beautiful flowers and greenery! Thumbs-up~

A steep climb from Stadhuys brought us to the ruins of the St Paul's church. The place was being prepped up for an Arts show that weekend and so the place was wired up with electronic equipment and speakers, which slightly dashed our expectations of the place, but the view was still stunning from atop the hill.

Within this church are the tombstone of Dutch dignitaries. I wonder what happened to the church's roof. Somehow this place reminded me of St Paul's Ruin in Macau....

Now, how can we miss the most famous landmark in Melaka : Fort A Famosa. This place is literally the face of Melaka. Quickly snapped a photo while the coast is clear...hehe....

I still think the Melaka state government did a good job in making the place green and colourful with all the vibrant decorations and plants.

This is the unique Maritime Museum, right beside the Melaka River. It is somehow mystical to see a ship parked by the side of the road. This landmark is indeed a visitor's favourite photo-taking sight.

We also paid a visit to the Baba&Nyonya Museum, which was cramped with Singaporean tourists thanks to 'Xiao Niang Er'. Anyway, the museum prohibits any photo-taking so no photos to show. However, the guided tour was pretty good and comprehensive, glad we decided to stop by.
