Family Day 2007

Early December, my company organised its annual Family Day. This year we had a free weekend stay in Costa Sands, Downtown East. Here i am, at the entrance...fresh after a night of playing Nintendo Wii and mahjong with my colleagues.
.

It was raining for the whole week and yet on that Saturday the sun decided to pay us a visit. How lucky! Good weather meant i could enjoy the outdoor rides in Escape Theme Park, the current ONLY theme park in Singapore.
.

Hmm...the rides did look a little shabby. Kinda reminded me of those in Fun Fairs in Malaysia. Oh well, i'm consoled by the fact that Universal Studios is already starting work on a theme park in Sentosa, cos a theme park of this standard should not be the ONLY one in Singapore. Nevertheless, being the theme park junkie that i am, i did enjoy the rides!
.

After trying out all the rides, we still had 2 free tickets left, so i headed to Wild Wild Wet. I figured if the kids could survive in there...so could i! Anyway, the day ended with me sliding from a 3-storey slide into the pool and the lifeguard pulling me out cos i couldn't float back up! Guess my swimming had not improved since day one... =(
.

Ahh...here's a view of Wild Wild Wet from the chalet grounds. See the yellow tube? That's the slide that claimed me as a victim. Anyway, just glad that there are lifeguards at every corner of the park. They were supposed to be saving 7-year-old kids, but once in a while they can save a 27-year-old like me for fun too!

Sheau Ching's Recovery Process

I visited Sheau Ching in the general ward 3 days ago. It was my first time visiting after he was moved from ICU, so i was very glad to see that his progress had been ideal because when i visited him in ICU, he wasn't alert nor aware of our presence. According to Sheau Ching's brother, Chung King, Sheau Ching will be moved to another hospital in the near future to facilitate his therapy. He will need some time to re-learn many things he used to do with ease, but we are all just very thankful that he had recovered. There had been several days when his situation was bleak and we were prepared for the worst.

Sheau Ching still suffers from short-term memory loss. This piece of card was drawn by his wife Shin Yen to illustrate to him what had happened.
.

I was visiting with Hsin Hui, who had just landed from London. They both were like brothers and they were elated to see each other. Sheau Ching could even find strength for a 'peace' sign!
.

Sheau Ching's mother asked him to write on a piece of paper the people who were around him at the moment. He first wrote 'Xing hui' (Hsin Hui). Then his mother asked him to write mei-mei's name (that's me the little sis...he used to introduce me to his mom as mei-mei). He scribbled 'Yong An' and lastly wrote his mom as Ma Ma.
.
He has lost a lot of weight ever since the incident happened. It will be sometime before he will gain back all the weight. His family, Shin Yen and her family all seemed to me to be more optimistic than before. In a way, i am happy that their piety towards their religion has made the experience a little easier =)

Malaysian Malay Food

The skinniest food critic is back! Haha... Anyway, i'm pretty pumped up 'cos after i returned from Kuantan to S'pore, i did a medical check up and realised i've put on 3 kg. My target is that i am able to put on about 5 kg more. Christmas is around the corner, i hate going out around this period cos all the places are jammed with paranoid shoppers. That's why i've never really liked Christmas. Haha...most of my friends are just dumbfounded when they hear me saying it aloud, i dunno, everyone seem to love the season of joy... On a lighter note, here are some delightful Malay food i love :
The day my sister got back to Kuantan, she went out to get some Chendol Campur for the family. We've been patronising this stall for several years now, this mamak stall. I love how all the containers, cutleries, and even the stall itself still have the old-school look.
.

A packet of Chendol Campur is enough for 2-3 people. I love Malaysian chendol cos they don't look as green and are softer. S'pore chendol has a different feel, they are more chewy and harder. I guess it's a matter of preference. The special thing about this chendol campur is its red bean, sunk at the bottom of the bowl. The red bean is the defining factor, making or breaking this dessert.
.

Ahhh... satay. This time my parents brought us to a new place recommended by a neighbour. The satay at this place has absolutely no chicken skin, contrary to the old places we used to eat in. Very healthy...
.

Here you go...the rice and cucumber pieces. A must-have dish to accompany your satay.
.

Something worth mentioning here is that the peanut gravy (kuah) they make here has generous amount of peanut chunks in it.
.

OK, i need to clarify that this is not something i like, but this is something Ki Yaw always has whenever he is in Kuantan. It is called Nasi Kerabu. I used to see this in Malay pasar malams but i've never had the courage to try it for fear that it has been contaminated by Copper (II) Sulphate (judging from its colour). Even after trying it , i still do not like it for its fishy taste. I have yet to see this in S'pore... haha

Bringing the Roof Down!

Last Saturday, Puffyrazzi being an avid dance fan, attended Dancing King Show Luo's first solo concert in Singapore. Buying his ticket alone was hard enough. The sistic computer system crashed on the day tickets were released, causing a massive traffic at Sistic counters and Sistic websites... =(
.
About 30 min before the show was scheduled to start, i was already seated at my seat, testing out my latest acquired multicoloured light stick...haha... Many fans like me were sitting down to rest their feet before the real dancing began!
.
Show's about to start....cue fans screaming...
.
During all of Xiao Zhu's concert, he will perform a lucky draw where a fan will be chosen to be his 3-minute girlfriend. For the first time ever, this 'girlfriend' turned out to be a male. They held hands, and shared a pink loveseat (video to come later). The stadium roared with laughter along with those two on stage =)
.
It was freaking super dancing from start to finish, peppered with some fine ballads here and there. The stage was awesome... better than Jolin's... LOL. The fans had hardly a minute to sit , yawn nor stop screaming (err...except when Rainie Yang appeared to belt out 2 songs... haha)
.

This gigantic inflatable Show Luo that appeared during the encore was just too adorable and he was swaying with the beat too! Look! Xiao Zhu's putting on his gloves for the final dance... After i left the stadium, i suffered from temporary deafness due to all those loud music and screaming...that's what i call noise-induced deafness. Anyhowz, it was a really great show! Really worth the money...

Malaysian Chinese Food

Today, i'm going to share some photos of some of those nice Chinese food i love from home. I'm pretty lucky because this time i went back, i had my boyfriend, my sis and my bro-in-law to help me eat my heart out.... haha...

For breakfast, a bowl of steaming hot curry mee with loads of stuff in it. The mini size bowl is mine and the bigger bowl is my sis'. Look at the overcrowding in my bowl...hehe...

Breakfast must come with an aromatic cup of coffee. Hot or cold, up to individual preference. For once, i don't have to drink coffee that comes from a sachet =P

Ooooh, what's this? There are two types of Bak Kut Teh. One type is the clear soup type, with just pieces of pork rib in it. That's soooo NOT my type of Bak Kut Teh. Now, this photo is my ideal bowl of Bak Kut Teh...with pork ribs, pig intestines, mushrooms, you tiao, vege and tao pok....Of course, the soup should be black, not clear... ahhhh...

BIG PAU Malaysia style!!!! Actually my sister requested for this, cos in KL, most of the eateries sell mass-produced Big Pau. Same here for me... so you can imagine our delight at seeing home-made big pau that we can get from most coffee shops at home.

The pau was so big i couldn't finish one on my own. I think the pau was as big as both my palms put together! Look at the nice colour of the meat and egg, very fresh... love it~

One of my mother's signature dish is salty tang yuan. You can see me busy making tang yuan for my mother's soup here... hehe

And this is the final product! Most people eat tang yuan the sweet way, but in Wee Family, we eat it the salty way....goodz!
