吳在驚 vs 超人

In Bai Fen Bai, there used to be two 'school boys' telling cold jokes at the end, until the appearance of 超人 ( it's Xiao Zhu under that suit). I love how he tries to fly off at the end. This is his debut joke :

Then tiba-tiba, this 超人 has a girlfriend, Woman ( it's Xiao Gui) under that suit. Boy they are hilarious together. Click and laugh your ass off :

Later, 超人 started developing a knack of appearing at the end of 吳在驚's jokes and would trash him in many hilarious ways. Some of it look awfully painful!!!! Children, don't learn this at home!

When they get tired of that this is what happens. 吳在驚 tells a joke then at the end 驚驚 appears. 吳在驚 says that he is happy cos 超人 has disappeared for quite some time.

Thai Food in Kuantan

Cheers, peace :) My sister and I joined our family on a dinner trip to a Malay Thai restaurant in Kuantan. We were there early, had a good look at the menu and ordered some of our favourite dishes. Pity they didn't have and know what Thai Fishcakes were....

A glass of Rose Bandung and a glass of Limau Bandung?

The thing we liked about this place is that their serving is small, perhaps even good for a couple of people.

This is a nice Mango Salad, with slight tangy taste, and pretty spicy to the tongue as well. A very good appetiser to start dinner with.

I would normally order Green Chicken Curry whenever i go to Thai restaurants. They have this strong basil taste, and also a robust coconut milk flavour. I also really like the slight sweetness of green curry :)

Mama's Good Food

Guess what are the yummy and delectable stuff i enjoyed back at home in Kuantan ?

My mom bought those big fat kampong chickens, complete with their very yellow skin and robust meat. She would steam the chicken and the concentrate would be used as a soup base. For lunch, she prepared me a scrumptious bowl of Mee Sua cooked using that wonderful soup.

Once in a while, i go home to enjoy those fresh steamed fish. She always generously sprinkles lots of toppings to make the fish more fragrant.

One dish i've always tried replicating when i once had a kitchen was this 'Tau Gee with Pork' but my mom's always tastes one of a kind. I've always liked Tau Gee, especially after they've soaked up all the goodness in the gravy.

Wahahaha....my mom's 'Lo Bak', i took a photo of the whole bowl of 'Lo Bak' but it looked like a whole bowl of black stuff, so i decided to post this with the Lotus Bun. This combination goes great together, plus the lotus bun was really fluffy and soft too.

A popiah made by the generous neighbour, to be shared by our family.

宝贝 Puffy & 宝贝 QQ

While i was in Kuantan, i got some shots of the dogs back at home. QQ enjoys his afternoon runs in the garden and sometimes stops for a short breeze.

Puffy used to be the craziest dog, but now she's all cuddly and such a good companion. See how she enjoys being hugged by closing her eyes? Heehee...

One of her favourite phrases is 'Kai Kai' which means to go out. She loves sitting in the car, even though it might only be for a short trip out. She looks like she's smiling.

QQ decided to make a fashion statement, that it is the year of the Rabbit!

I always take too many photos with QQ when i'm at home, to the point that he's sick and tired of the lens constantly up his nose :)

CSI : The Experience

CSI made a stop in Singapore Science Center for about 4 months this year. It's for fans like us to go in and inspect the crime scenes and come to a conclusion to solve all 4 cases within. It was extremely easy, any kid can solve the cases but i suppose we could enrich ourselves with a lot of forensic information that they provided us with each evidence, we just need to have the patience to read them. Thank God i went on a week day, i heard it was very crowded on weekends and it could get on nerves when you have to queue at every crime scene.

First case i had to solve who killed Penny. It turned out that Penny overdosed on drugs and died in an alley. She was run over by a car post-mortem. Early investigation seemed to imply that she died in a hit-and-run.

There were many sub-stations for us to match finger prints, input tire tracks, compare shoe prints, look into microscopes etc. It reminded me of the CSI computer game i used to play. This particular station where we had to perform a chemical test to see which drug was consumed was out of order. The answer was written on the sign. Ha ha!!

At the end of the day, we always go to Dr Al Robbins and he will tell us from the body what the COD (Cause Of Death) was.

The Science Center didn't maintain the exhibitions well. This particular crime scene confused me cos there was a candy with the skeleton. I thought it was part of the crime scene, turned out that some pesky kid threw it in....sheesh

Woohooo.... spectacular car crashed into a living room! Pretty nice...

Hey guess what, i get a certificate at the end of the day too.

Jade @ Fullerton Hotel Part 3

Boiled Congee with Dried Scallop - after all those fatty and sinful stuff we ingested, it was time for something light. This porridge was very soothing and has a fluffy texture. Good way to pace ourselves for more dishes.

A little bit of the traditional Har Gao for us to savour as well.

Beef Brisket with Bean Sauce - the beef was downright tender and has a very distinctive taste. The gravy was bursting with flavour. Good dish.

A plate of Xiao Bai Cai, my second favourite kinda greens after broccoli.

We suddenly had a craving for something sweet and hence the appearance of this Steamed Custard Bun. A tad too dry, but the custard was good. It was warm and flowy.

I thought that this dish was pretty special - Sauteed Pork Ribs In Coffee Flavour. Surprisingly, the coffee taste was quite strong. I was satisfied to have my caffeine fix from a dish.

Last savoury dish : Braised Pork Knuckle With Red Vinasse. Sixian still managed to lap this up because she's a great fan of Pork Knuckles, be it cooked the German way or the Chinese way....haha

For dessert, most of us ordered Mango Sago. After finishing the dessert, we were just on time to leave at the lunch closing hour....heehee....very full.Gosh....

Jade @ Fullerton Hotel Part 2

Continuation of our crazy buffet at Jade :

Pan-fried Shrimp Bean Curd Roll - do not be deceived by its ordinary look. It actually tasted fabulous. Dip in the special sauce for an even more delectable flavour!

This is the special version of xiao long bao. It is Xiao Long Bao with Foie Gras. It has the flavours of a normal xiao long bao, except that there is a strong liver-ish after taste from the foie gras. Pretty potent stuff~

This was a hit with my makan kakis that day - Deep Fried Prawn Coated with Wasabi Mayonnaise. Even though it sounded like a downright nasty combination, the ingredients actually worked together synergistically to create a wonderful dish. Must order this....

These beancurds were actually bite size, but from this picture you can't really tell how small they were. Even though small, you could keep ordering until you've had enough. This Crispy Bean Curd With Chilli Fragrant Salt are deep fried to a crisp with a moist interior.

Hehehe...i must say i did a good job capturing a delectable photo here :) Roasted pork....

I don't believe i had any share of this Poached Shrimp Wonton with Chili Vinegar Dressing. My friends had a good go at this plate though. Good for them....

r
Very ugly looking mess, this foul-tasting dumpling. I will remember this for its awful taste and ugly appearance. More to come in the next post. Stay tuned

Jade @ Fullerton Hotel Part 1

It was a beautiful Sunday morning, where myself, Cuicui, Sixian, Tze Ching, Stanley and Hin Siong checked ourselves in at Jade Restaurant in Fullerton Hotel for a dining experience of dim sum buffet. I forgot what kind of deal or promotions we had, but we were so game on the brunch!

We could basically order anything we wanted from the menu. We kicked off with a sweet dish of oven-baked egg tart. I would say this wasn't a particularly impressive dish to start with. It was okay-ish but pretty run-of-the-mill eggtart.

This is deep-fried cheese dumpling. It has a crunchy outer layer, with a sweet bun which encapsulates warm, slightly molten cheese. It is not often that i come across such an intriguing dish. Definitely one of the more memorable dishes of the day, plus they look like Russian dolls!

This is such a beautiful presentation of 'Pan-fried minced pork and chives guo tie dumpling'. Aside from its beauty, it is tasty and cooked to perfection. You have to try it yourself!

Wah...such a sinful basket of steamed abalone siew mai. I don't really fancy siew mais, plus the abalone makes it taste somewhat fishy. My friends love it though, so i'm not sure whether i should be raving or pooh-poohing this dish.

Name of this dish is 'Deep Fried Taro Paste wrapped with Truffle and Mushrooms'. Boy, this furry little buddy sure is crunchy! With its wholesome filling of fungus and its unhealthy deep fried crust, the final outcome is a finger licking good dish.

The dish sits on top of our Lazy Susan. Time to fight for the food guys!!

We all had a bowl of soup each. This is Braised Shark's Fin with crab meat, truffle, egg white in chicken broth. This soup was so yummy it titillated our taste buds and made us want more....oooh....ahhh...

Stanley's bowl of Hot & Sour Seafood Soup.

This was another highlight, we ordered several servings of this 'Honey Vinaigrette Sliced Sea Bass'. The fish was fresh, and the sauce coating was absolutely divine.

Ho ho ho.... by this time i was already dying of all the food, and we are not even halfday done yet. I think i skipped this 'Steamed Scallop Dumpling with Minced Vegetables'. I'm going to continue next time, so we'll stop here for the time being.

Treasure Hunt

My friend and I decided to sign ourselves up for a day of Treasure Hunt jointly organised by SMRT and Tampines Community Club. It had us mad-chasing around the city of Singapore and playing games with the station masters at various locations. Hey, look! It's Esplanade, looking like two giant durians.

It was scorching hot, and was a really clear day. It was nice to be able to enjoy the many buildings in the city especially during noon, when i'm usually indoors.

One of the tasks at the station in Singapore Art Museum was to have our treasure-hunting group pose for a photo and we could get our next clue.

Chijmes was one of our stops. This stunning place is a happening area because its entire area is filled with restaurants and bars. Think Japanese, Thai, Italian, Chinese, American, Indian....all sorts of cuisines are crammed into Chijmes, and this place is filled with locals and foreigners once the sun sets.

It appeared as if i've transported myself to Europe in Chijmes. It used to be a convent school many years ago. It was once the Convent of Holy Infant Jesus, established in 1854. Now everything has changed, but it is a good thing that they have restored this place and retained most of its charm.
