Puffyrazzi's Three Step To Good Eating

This is how Puffyrazzi responds to her favourite dishes ( in this case Assam Laksa) :

1) Take a big spoonful with all the essence in the big bite.

2) Munch, chomp and slurp if you will. God, it feels like heaven ( you can see the bliss written all over my face)!

3) A big contented smile to let everyone know that i have tasted something incomparable.

My Favourite Cuisine : Thai !

Whenever somebody asks me what's my favourite cuisine in the world, i would definitely say Thai food! Chinese comes a close second though, so i am not forgetting my heritage here! One of the reasons for this passionate love for Thai food is because it makes me eat more than i normally can. The spicy and sour food just opens up my appetite....oh yeah~

Whenever i go to Thai Express and if i happen to order a beverage, it will definitely be the Chiang Mai Mango Blend. I adore mango, and this silky smooth conconction is one of my favourite drinks.

Given a choice between the red or clear Tom Yum soup, i will always opt for the clear version. Thai Express has a mean Tom Yum soup that i love because it has a nice mix of things in it. The spicy and sour taste is also just right for my taste bud, not overdoing things. I've tried ordering the Tom Yum glass noodles ( individual portion) but somehow the soup is a little watered down, so i still prefer to order just the soup.

This is my first time trying some of the appetizers there. The fried squid is pretty alright. I love the fact that even though it is fried, it doesn't come across as greasy or oily.

At first i thought these are real chicken wings. When my teeth finally sink into the winglets, i realised that the winglets were actually stuffed meat ( tastes like Thai fish cakes). I happen to like fish cakes, with its strong spice and lemongrass taste, so this is actually a great substitute for Thai fish cakes.

The Mango Salad is good too. One thing i didn't like though, is that they put lots of chilli padi inside, so i always have to take time to pull these pesky little creatures out so that i don't accidentally eat them and risk having a burning throat for the rest of the day!

My favourite kind of curry - the green version!! The green chicken curry to be exact. As a whole, this is a perfect meal to have. If i ever die, this is what i wish to have for my last meal...ahahaha

Marina Barrage with the Family

The Wee sisters paid a visit to Marina Barrage during erjie's visit to Singapore. This is a dam built across the Marina Channel between Marina East and South. The purpose of this dam is to increase the water catchment area in Singapore.

Besides its purpose, Marina Barrage also serves as a visiting place for many locals. Lovers come here for a stroll, families come here for family outings.

The Marina Barrage overlooks Singapore city outline. Look at Donavon spinning the Singapore Flyer! Haha....

When we visited, it was just before dusk and it wasn't too sunny for a good walk with the family.

From the central foyer, you can see the new Integrated Resort coming up nicely. It's the building that looks like a set of joss-stick at the horizon. Talk about bad feng shui!

Aunty and nephew were obviously enjoying themselves, judging from the wide grins.

Atop the building is a large grass area where many locals come for a small picnic and to fly kite. It was very crowded that weekend with throngs of people flying their kites at the same time. A little dangerous but these people were enjoying themselves.

Just before leaving, the lights came on in the city. The Singapore Flyer was decorated with green lights which made it look like there is a large Christmas tree attached to it.

There is a small exhibition at the Marina Barrage to educate the masses about Energy Conservation. We had a small tour and rounded up our trip to Marina Barrage. Where to next? Eat of course!!

Taman Jurong Curry Fish Head

When Crispy was here for a shopping weekend, the first meal we brought her to was to have Taman Jurong Curry Fish Head. To think we initially wanted to have Pizza Hut instead. Thank goodness the phone lines were jammed and hence we got to have this fulfilling meal. The fish was awfully fresh and the curry was rich, filled with an array of vegetables.

We ordered a plate of bean sprouts, not one of my favourite vegetables, but this dish was actually crunchy and tasty.

Gosh, i love sweet and sour pork! There's something about the contrasting sweet and sour taste and also the crisp of the fried pork that makes one keep coming back for more. No wonder those Americans love sweet sour pork as well~

At first glance, one finds it hard to tell what this is. I didn't know either, then was told that these were prawn dates....hmmm.... When dipped with the sauce, the prawn dates have a very flavourful taste...plus everything that is fried tastes good, haha...

Oh Yummy! My oh my, fried oyster omelette. This stall sells oyster omelette which comes in rich in egg and the omelette is very thick! When you take a bite, it is actually juicy and there are enough oysters to go around too. Quite a satisfying meal, especially the curry!

Nyonya Food

What's a trip to Melaka without sampling a good Nyonya meal? There is a street where we are spoilt for choices for Nyonya restaurants. Finally we settled with this place 'Indah Sayang' which both my local colleagues have tried before and said it was worth a try.

One otah for each of us. The otah was flavourful and spicy at the same time. A good start to our nyonya meal.

We had planned to have Ayam Buah Keluak, the nyonya signature dish. To our disappointment the boss informed us that they have sold out the dish for the night. Therefore, we had to settle for Chicken in Special Sauce. Despite the name, it was nothing special at all lor...

The Assam Prawn was awesome though. The gravy was actually similar to Assam Laksa soup, we almost licked this bowl clean. This dish also came with assorted vegetable in it, making it the highlight of the dinner.

The sambal sweet potato leaves also left a deep impression. The sambal was tasty, and the dish was really appetizing. Well, at least this restaurant scored in 3 dishes out of 4. Good stuff~

Chicken Rice Ball & Nyonya Laksa

Time to makan again!!! Wow, my favourite Assam Laksa!! I was sooo craving for it, this whole bowl seemed to have melted down my throat, that's how delicious it was! And not to mention the chendol that went with it. All the wait for the seat and the food was worth it. There were heaps and heaps of fish in the soup, very generous portions.

We also had to queue for this Chicken Rice Ball place. This is half a chicken, shared by the 5 of us. The chicken was tasty, not too salty and not too oily as well. This place was recommended by our two Melaka friends.

The chicken rice balls, which Melaka has proudly called their own. I had been wanting to sample them. Weird but they seemed more moist and softer than i had imagined. Sedap!! But very sad there is no ginger sauce to go with it.

We also ordered some Assam Fish to go with it. Now i know why i love eating in Melaka. I simply love sour and spicy dishes. Whets my appetite each time :D

The place is full of people and we had to queue to get a seat.

Historical City of Melaka

This blog entry will focus on the many wonderful and memorable attractions of Melaka. On our first night there, despite all that fatigue, we decided to jump onto the bandwagon along with the crowd at Jonker Walk. This long stretch of road has a Pasar Malam on weekends, and the road is fringed with old shop houses selling food and other local crafts and souvenirs. A must-see for tourists and visitors.

Look at that bustling street. Beware of pickpockets though~

I think i caused a mini jam whilst posing for this photo. Anyway, just wanna capture the real atmosphere at that place, where local aunties to blonde ang-mohs hang out together.

The next morning, we rose early and promptly went to Stadhuys ( or better known as Red Square) right after breakfast. This square has historical structures built by the Dutch when they occupied the town of Melaka. Everything has since been painted red, and hence the moniker.

The local government has taken great effort in beautifying the square with beautiful flowers and greenery! Thumbs-up~

A steep climb from Stadhuys brought us to the ruins of the St Paul's church. The place was being prepped up for an Arts show that weekend and so the place was wired up with electronic equipment and speakers, which slightly dashed our expectations of the place, but the view was still stunning from atop the hill.

Within this church are the tombstone of Dutch dignitaries. I wonder what happened to the church's roof. Somehow this place reminded me of St Paul's Ruin in Macau....

Now, how can we miss the most famous landmark in Melaka : Fort A Famosa. This place is literally the face of Melaka. Quickly snapped a photo while the coast is clear...hehe....

I still think the Melaka state government did a good job in making the place green and colourful with all the vibrant decorations and plants.

This is the unique Maritime Museum, right beside the Melaka River. It is somehow mystical to see a ship parked by the side of the road. This landmark is indeed a visitor's favourite photo-taking sight.

We also paid a visit to the Baba&Nyonya Museum, which was cramped with Singaporean tourists thanks to 'Xiao Niang Er'. Anyway, the museum prohibits any photo-taking so no photos to show. However, the guided tour was pretty good and comprehensive, glad we decided to stop by.

Foodie Experience

Wonderful and flavourful Chendol we enjoyed in Melaka. It is so fragrant and tasty we had it twice while we were in Melaka, despite the weather being rainy. Highly recommended for dessert-lovers. Very strong santan taste, and i adore the gula melaka they put on top.

We were looking for some supper for the night and Tze Ching's mom + sis brought us to this packed place.

Uncle is renowned in Melaka for his fried oyster. My heart really went out to him, cos he had to work in the heat, with all the oily aroma and grouchy customers every night. The queue was so long we waited an hour for his signature dish.

Voila! His fried oyster had a strong wok taste.... pretty good, but not worth the long wait. The parsley and chilli was great though.

While waiting, Sixian ordered a bowl of Wonton noodles. The noodle is slightly different from normal but very springy and the standard was actually very good! Surprisingly tasty, despite the so-so look.

Next morning, we had Duck noodle for breakfast. The portion was small but the duck was well-marinated. Thumbs-up!

Anna also ordered some 'wu xiang' for us. Not fantastic, but i washed it down with very strong and aromatic local kopi ping. Heaven~~~
