More Goodies From Sarawak

Hola! I'm back with more goodies from across the South China Sea. These are the 2nd part of photos which was brought to my attention by my anonymous reporter, nicknamed Crispy. Coincidentally, i'll be meeting Crispy tomorrow to venture into another eating escapade that will hopefully be posted here as well...hehehe...

When i made a trip to Kuching 3 years ago, i had one of these, called the 'While Lady', i think. I did not take a photograph of it then, and so Crispy did me a favour by doing it for me 3 years later. This is the ideal drink on a sunny hot day... you know what? I can really use one now... the weather is scorching hot these days.

Kolo Mee Special anyone? I'm not very sure what makes it more 'special' than the ordinary Kolo Mee, would appreciate it if someone drops a line to enlighten me.

Ah... i love this! It's the savoury pastry that those hawkers normally sell with 'you tiao' and 'ham chim peng'. Hmm... is this the one with 'wu xiang' powder or the one with bean paste? Well, don't really care which one is it. Try staring at these for several minutes will give you a massive headache. Stare at it long enough and you may just be able to time-travel.

OoooooooooohHHHH.... METAHORN! I didnt know this particular dessert is THAT famous until i went surfing on a couple of 'Visit Kuching' websites and this is apparently a must-try. Crispy + hubby kept telling me it's called 'metahorn' but when i asked them how it's spelt, they just shrugged and that's the reason why i went surfing around those sites =P

Lastly, who can forget the most famous of them all, the Sarawak Laksa! For the authentic one, only those sold in Sarawak will do it. No point trying those from outside of the state. Period.

~~Sarawak Goodies~~

More food to introduce to everyone. This time is courtesy of my roving reporter, Crispy who made her annual pilgrimage to Sarawak and always comes back with a bunch of yummy photos to share with all. Here are some and more a definitely coming your way in the next few posts or so :

This is Belacan Noodle. Judging from its looks, apart from the belacan, it should be very good for health. Just look at the amount of bean sprouts, cucumber and tomatoes. Not too sure about the taste though, it looks a little bland.

And this is Kway Chap, full of pig innards, just the way we Chinese love our dishes. Now this i can guarantee you, ladies and gentleman, is a sinful dish.

Who's selling rainbows over here? Ahhh...Crispy has always been telling me about how the people of Sarawak love having Kueh Lapis for Chinese New Year. I have always thought of it as being very odd, until she provided me with proof that it's true! Haha...

In her own words, this dish is called the 干盤面. Boy it sure looks dry and it sure as hell comes in a plate, hence the name... =)

Why not wash it all down with a glass of 'Tiga Masam' (translated as 3-sour)? It is concocted by 3 sour elements : the sour plum, lemon and lime. I believe i will love this. If this was up to me, i'd add a dash of vodka in it too!

QQ the CATBUSTER

Hmmm.... what's this? A sly looking cat lurking in the neighbourhood. These pesky felines are always breeding and stealing food from rubbish bins around the area. What's the best way to get rid of them?

This looks like a good solution. A big, bad-ass dog, ready to pounce and growl them to death!

Presenting to you, the CATBUSTER of the neighbourhood. His name is QQ, not to be mistaken for China's critics-panned car Chery QQ. Look at those eyes burning with desire to annihilate the enemy.

Hey, is that a cat i see over there? Grrrrr......

Stop running idiots! Stop being a coward...come back here like a man and let's fight. And stop coming into the house to steal Puffy's food from her bowl. Yes, you! I remember you, ugly black kitty!

Going out for a walk is like being on sentry duty. Always on an alert look-out for the villains. Call me QQ, the CATBUSTER!

Chef LeLe's Raisin Buns Part II

Hi guys, me back! As you can see, the buns are ready and nicely arranged on the tray! I'm gonna bring it over back to the kitchen for tha baking process...

OK lemme grab a timer. In case i go yakking around while the buns are baking, they might get charred and we don't want that to happen, do we?

Yawn, baking can be so mundane sometimes. I'm getting bored... Me will just quicky spread some egg yolk on these buns, stuff them into the oven and go play with me toys!

Look! Buns in the oven! Oops, no...i don't mean that anyone's pregnant... me just meant it in literal sense that my buns are in the oven! oooohhhh.... can't wait...

How many yawns does it take for my buns to bake?

Yippee, me buns are done! They don't look very pretty do they? But me bet they taste so much better than those you buy from bakeries. Yummy... me am off to kaypoh somewhere else now....Catch up with u peeps next time! Ciaoz

Chef LeLe's Raisin Buns Part I

Yowza everybody! Me Chef LeLe, i'll be teaching you how to make Raisin Buns. It is a finger-licking, yumm-o recipe handed down by my renowned baker grandmother! Look! I've dumped all the ingredients i need into my breadmaker... Peace dude!

Yo-yo-yo, the mixture is placed into the breadmaker, and we await the magic to unfold. Me so excited i kept looking in to check on it.

Finally, the fluffy mould ! Wait! It's not ready yet... the raisins are not in.... Lemme grab the raisins

Now, me squash the dough... and sprinkle raisins on them slow and steady. Watch the master at work... I've got keen eyes and skilful hands

Oh gawd, i can't even praise meself. The moment me started praising, the dough got stuck on my fingers. Get off me! Get off me!

Aha! Finally it came off, and let's put them onto the tray. Bigger ones for me, smaller ones for my bro Kai Kai who is nowhere near helping me. Me tired, continue next time.
