Brotzeit

It's time for some fun at a German restaurant, the famous Brotzeit, which has several outlets in Singapore. Time to get drunk on a Sunday evening with German beer. Cheers~

Paulaner beer straight from the tap. Not too bitter, yet silky smooth and with an aromatic fragrance. Good beer! Only beer from the tap can give you that nice little foam on top of the glass.

We decided to share this huge plate of Pork Knuckles. Tastes like chinese roast pork! Haha....Wow, but the sidedish of sauerkraut was spellbinding. It was sour and crunchy, making it appetising so that we could swallow more of that fattening pork knuckle. The mashed potato was creamy and buttery. Great dinner :)

What's On My Dressing Table? (Part 2)

Here's the continuation from my previous post :

Kiehl's Silk Groom Serum. This glossy, oily liquid gives my hair shine every morning before i go to work. It also helps keep the frizz in check and aids in styling my hair.

After so many mascaras tried, the Lancome Virtuoso is still my favourite! The design of the wand is perfect for my lashes. If you hardly use mascara, like me, get them in travel size, not the huge ones because mascara is the one cosmetic item which loses its effectiveness very quickly.

The Dior travel make up set was a birthday gift from 2009 and i have just opened it up, but yet to use it. It looks cute but the brushes seemed a little tiny to handle properly. Having said that, this travel set will come in handy when i'm on the go~

L'Occitane is a French brand which doesn't really have that big a following in Asia yet. Two years ago, a friend bought a hand cream for me. I must say that it feels good on the hands and the fragrance is natural, and not overpowering.

Whilst my friends gush over RMK's blushers, i like their Herb Mist, especially the one in the rose scent. It perks me up and gives me a wake up boost. At the same time, it also moisturizes my face with my favourite rose smell!

This is a gem from Clarins, it's Stop Imperfection Locales Blemish Control. It works wonders when you have a break-out. Simply run the roller over your pimple and it disappears and heals quicker. Now i start to see copycat products in the mass market using the same roller system ( Garnier etc.) Be careful though, the bottle is made of glass so if it rolls off your dressing table, you'd have to get another one.

Ahhhhh.... my favourite Chanel Lipgloss in Candy Glow shade. It is one of those rare brands which comes with a soft brush of very high quality. I hate those which comes in a spongey tip...

The L'Oreal hair mask works wonders for my very dry hair. I buy this in the pink packaging for damaged hair, and within weeks my tresses and regaining shine again. I guess L'Oreal really live up to their name as a hair salon giant.

Yet Another Hotel Buffet Breakfast

After our pyjamas party, the next morning we had a hearty buffet breakfast at the hotel. I kicked the meal off with my mixed fresh fruit in plain yoghurt. Healthy and sedap, what more can one ask for?

I missed having toasts, so imagine the joy i had drizzling honey onto my crunchy toast, with scrambled eggs too!

Eeek... this is Sixian's plate, definitely. Cos i don't take walnuts nor olives....eeeeeyuck!

Some warm food, like sausages, eggs, hash browns. Not much choice for buffet, we still like Oscar's better ( see blog entry months ago...haha).

The pancake at the far end was cold and tough. I prefer my mother's. And the siew mai was floury....hai...disappointed lah.

Luckily they have Oatmeal Squares which i happily lapped up.

Alamak, i forgot to take a picture of my fish porridge before i started , so i only took one after i'm almost done. Very yummy....good way to end the meal.

What's On My Dressing Table? (Part 1)

Starting from today, i'll blog about some of the personal care items that i covet or i own. I'll start off with some that i have tried or have. Ahh, the joys of doing this, since i have switched departments to formulating personal care products. I've had fun doing research in magazines and in departmental store counters.

First item is something i've coveted for a long time, but never got myself to buy cos it's expensive! This is Guerlain's Meteorites Perles. It is an iluminating foundation powder in pearl form. It comes in three shades depending on your skin tone.

This is my Skinfood Eggplant Pumping Volume Mascara. Basically to prevent your mascara from smearing, you can only put two zig-zag coats and that's it or you'll overload your lashes. I use this for touch-up because the wand is flat and you do not get chunks of mascara on your lash.

Wow, i love this product. It's my Kiehl's Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner. It is alcohol-free, very gentle on the skin. It smells heavenly and has flower residues within the bottle, to prove just how near to nature you are. I'm hooked, don't think i can go back to another brand. I was actually introduced to this brand by my pharmacist friend who said that the founder of this brand was a pharmacist too.

Next : Clarins Aqua Essence Morning Energy, fortified with Redcurrent, Green Coffee and White Tea Extracts. Pump this onto your face after your toner every morning to rejuvenate your skin.

Ohhh...my Skinfood Lecithin Base Mascara. It is white and acts as a base before your mascara. It also protects and nourishes your lashes.

New from Benefit is Benetint, a bloody red solution to gently brush on your lips or cheeks to give it a rosy tint. I love how this natural this pink hue looks especially on the cheeks, it made the cheeks look like they have a natural pinkish colour instead of a blusher.

My leave-on conditioner by big German company Schwarzkopf. Eventhough this is a well-known common brand in Europe, i always have trouble finding this, only get them from Carrefour. This spray comes in two layers, you need to shake well before spraying it on your hair. The only downside of this product is that i need to use alot of it and when i spray it on the hair, some of it tend to rain down on my mosaic floor, making it really slippery.

Eventhough Olay is not a very premium brand, but their White Radiance series has a very good sensory feel. I am currently using the big bottle in the middle, with SPF24/PA++. Despite this being one of the cheaper items on my dressing table, it has one of the best skinfeel. Value for money!

Jones the Grocer

We had a $50 voucher to be spent in the Mandarin Gallery and of course the first thought is always food. And so, we strolled in the place to find a decent meal. We initially wanted to eat Ramen, but the queue was horrendous, so we settled for Jones the Grocer.

The waiters were ill-trained. From going in, to ordering to getting their attention was one torture after another.

This is my dinner : Grilled Chicken Breast, Apple, Celery, Walnut and Baby Spinach Salad. It is made with terre bormane aulente white balsamic vinegar... light dish yet filling my tummy to the brim, and not to mention healthy, yeay.

And on the side is a bowl of Potato Wedges. The Rosemary herb sprinkled on the pieces were fragrant and tempting. Good dish.

Pine Garden's Cake

Three years ago, during my birthday a friend bought a Lychee Martini cake for my birthday. It was a big, round whole pink cake and i was hooked since then. The cake was purchased from this shop, Pine Garden's Cake in Ang Mo Kio.

The cake nearest to the camera is a slice of Lychee Martini cake. The other two are a Black Forest and Tiramisu. The verdict is that just go there for the Lychee Martini cake and forget the rest, cos they ain't as tasty!

PJ Party @ Meritus Mandarin

We girls have always been wanting to hold a pyjamas party. Finally it became reality as we nailed the offer by Mandarin Orchard.

Our room looks down on Orchard Road. The room wasn't much to shout about. This time, our deal was inferior compared to our overnight stay at Conrad Centennial in February, which was fantabulous!!

Haha~ Girls in pyjamas... We ate cake, watch TV, had tea and took photos. Check out my kinky bunny ears.

The following morning, we woke up to see Gromit sunbathing. Must be his way of communicating to me that he is starting to smell...

A971 Cafe at Clarke Quay

There we were, at Clarke Quay wondering what to have for dinner, when we stumbled upon this place A971 Cafe, which serves fusion Japanese cuisine + bar.

We chose to sit alfresco, by the riverside, enjoying the view and soaking in the atmosphere on a breezy Saturday evening.

How lucky we were to arrive there at the right hour where they offer a 1-for-1 beer deal. Yay!!! Bottles up!! Asahi beer is nice!

We shared this plate of Assorted Yakitori, combination of Shishito, asparagus bacon, chicken wing, chicken thigh and minced chicken meatball.

This was the highlight dish of the night : Quattro Formaggio. It has four melted cheese and is enhanced by the honey drizzled all over the top. The pizza with thin crust was salty and sweet at the same time, also crunchy and sticky . The irony makes it so tasty~

And the final touch is the seafood spaghetti....yumm-o....we had such a good time and a happy belly too.

December Rains

It was my very first time watching a chinese-language musical, after my wonderful encounters with English ones such as Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon and Saturday Night Fever. My friend loves Kit Chan very very much and so we spent some hard-earned money to watch the Sunday Matinee show of December Rains.

The show ran for 10 days at the Esplanade. Some sessions include autograph sessions with the writers and producers, Liang Wenfu and Ye Liangjun, while some featured Kit Chan. Ours was the last show, but we didn't stay to queue for the autographs.

The stage was awesome. However the show was mediocre. Sets looked cheap, and costumes bland. Some of the singers were bad, and the dances were badly choreographed. The storyline was pure lame and cliche. The only impressive two things : Kit Chan's live singing was FANTASTIC, and the songs of the musicals were touching.

Posing with the large poster right outside Esplanade.

Steamboat dinner

Several times Ching and I have passed by this steamboat restaurant at West Coast Plaza, where we like to hang out just before our foot reflexology session. One day, we finally walked in for a meal there. The waitresses were efficient because we were early and there were no other patrons.

We ordered the yin yang pot, with a chicken soup and 'Ma La' soup base. Ching and I skipped the 'Ma La' soup because it was very very very oily and spicy, plus Ching was coming down with sore throat so she didn't want to touch it too. Avoid at all cost!

Both of us do not really fancy meat, so we ordered lots of mushrooms, beancurds, taro and green vegetables!

These were the only meat we ordered. Ching loves prawn while i don't take them, so she polished off the entire plate! Ha Ha Ha...

Broccoli was expensive and out of season, so they only gave us a measly portion of it. But the lotus root was nice and crunchy! Anyway, i don't think i'll be back at this place. Nothing to shout about, the soup was so-so.. and not exactly cheap.
